Zodiac Academy: Ruthless Fae (Book 2) – The revenge story

This is book two in the Zodiac Academy fantasy fae bully romance series. Check out my other reviews in the series:

What’s it about?

Tory and Darcy decide to get back at the Heirs for their heinous attacks, and launch a series of revenge pranks both serious and petty. They have two goals: ruin the boys’ lives, and take them down a peg.

All the while, nymphs are still a looming threat and so are the only people who may be scarier than the Heirs: their parents.

It still had everything I loved about book 1, and actually got a little funnier.

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

I had similar qualms with book 2 that I did with book 1, but to a lesser degree. The writing itself did seem to improve marginally. While there was still some awkward sentence structure, it didn’t feel as pervasive as it did in book 1. I also felt a greater sense of plot.

It was definitely still entertaining, not to mention pretty funny. I even laughed out loud a few times. I also felt the emotional highs and lows alongside the characters, and was invested in their payback.

I enjoyed seeing more of the Heirs’ lives, meeting their parents, and just generally understanding them better. It expanded both the world and the scope of the political issues underpinning Tory and Darcy’s narrative.

Side note: still more bullying than romance in book 2, but things are heating up. I love slow burns, and this is deliciously so. While there was some spice, most of the romance was focused on tension-building.

Should you read it?

If you enjoyed book 1 – yes, read on!

Update 3/6/23: I DNF’d this series in book 4.
