This is book 3 in the Zodiac Academy series. Check out my other reviews in the series:
What’s it about?
To keep their place at Zodiac Academy, Tory and Darcy must pass The Reckoning. But first they have to survive Hell Week, otherwise known as the week during which upperclassmen are free to terrorize the freshman in whatever way they please.
Outside the academy, trouble is brewing in the Acrux household. Darius and Orion want to stop whatever terrible plans Lionel Acrux has prepared for the night of the Lunar Eclipse, the night when all Fae experience heightened sensations.
I’m still entertained.
I’m still enjoying this series overall, though I felt a little more bored throughout The Reckoning than I did for the first two only because a lot of the premise, setup, and problems were not new. I found this installment to be a little slower overall, and I felt like the real story didn’t start until about halfway through.
On another note: while similar, I can definitely tell the difference between the two authors’ writing styles, which always draws me out of the reading experience. I seem to prefer one over the other, so it’s always a drag when I get to a POV that I know will engage me less overall.
The ending definitely took a much-needed turn though, and now it seems we have a more clear cut villain besides the Heirs, so I’m excited to see where this takes us for the rest of the series. I have a feeling book 4 will give us something new – we’ll see!
Should you read it?
If you’ve made it this far, I’d say so!
Update 3/6/23: I DNF’d this series in book 4.
