Nov 2023: My Upcoming ARCs

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Hello, book nerds!

I have five ARCs in my Netgalley queue currently and my goal is to complete at least one this month. Here’s what I have to choose from:

Immortal Pleasures by V. Castro

Pub: April 16, 2024

Synopsis: “An ancient Aztec vampire roams the modern world in search of vengeance and love in this seductive dark fantasy from the author of The Haunting of Alejandra.”

Thoughts: I think I’m most excited about this one. The cover and description give me A Dowry of Blood vibes, which I loved. I checked Netgalley incessantly until this one was available.

Trial of the Sun Queen by Nisha J. Tuli

Pub: September 12, 2023

Synopsis: “Ten women. A deadly contest. Only one can win the Sun King’s heart.”

Thoughts: I’m also so excited for this one because I’ve heard a lot of good things from fellow fantasy romance lovers. Plus, deadly competitions are my jam.

Side note: I know that pub date has passed — but I was approved for this ARC after that date, sooo.

The Warm Hands of Ghosts by Katherine Arden

Pub: February 13, 2024

Synopsis: “During the Great War, a combat nurse searches for her brother, believed dead in the trenches despite eerie signs that suggest otherwise, in this hauntingly beautiful historical novel with a speculative twist.”

Thoughts: I love historical fiction with paranormal or fantasy twists, so this sounds right up my alley.

The Heiress by Rachel Hawkins

Pub: January 9, 2024

Synopsis: “New York Times bestselling author Rachel Hawkins returns with a twisted new gothic suspense about an infamous heiress and the complicated inheritance she left behind.”

Thoughts: gothic suspense? Complicated inheritance? Sign me UP.

A Dark and Drowning Tide by Allison Saft

Pub: September 17, 2024

Synopsis: A sharp-tongued folklorist must pair up with her academic rival to solve their mentor’s murder in this lush and enthralling sapphic fantasy romance.

Thoughts: I’ve been on the hunt for more dark, academic fantasy stories, and this seemed like a good candidate!

I’m really struggling to choose this month’s book, they all sound amazing. If you have any preferences, suggestions, or opinions, please share!

  1. I know we’re not supposed to judge books by their covers but A Dark and Drowning Tide looks absolutely gorgeous! And I’ve never really considered myself one for historical fiction but the speculative twist of The Warm Hands of Ghosts sounds intriguing. That being said, all five of these look fascinating, so I’d say you’ve got a good list of picks. 🙂
