Hello, book nerds!
October felt like a long month for me, in a good way. Between multiple concerts and spending a lot of quality time with friends and family, it was an enjoyable and relaxing month.
- GLINT: Book 2 in the Plated Prisoner series. I’ll be doing a full review when I finish the series, but overall I felt pretty much the same about book 2 as I did for book 1.
- THE LAST HOUR BETWEEN WORLDS: This was an ARC that I didn’t finish. You can read my DNF review on Goodreads or Storygraph.
- OUTLIVE: This was a very educational read, and I highly recommend it. It has me looking at exercise very differently.
- THE STOLEN HEIR: This was a vibes read. I didn’t listen closely enough to critically review it; it was just a fun time.
- THE PRINCESS AND THE GOBLIN: I had the old cartoon movie growing up, and re-watched it recently for nostalgia. Which led me down the rabbit hole of realizing it was based on a really old fairy tale, hence me downloading the audiobook. Leans heavy on the children’s fairy tale aspect, which is charming in its own way. Fantasy in general has come a long way since these kinds of stories.
- Full reviews posted for the others:
A fun note: I got all of these movies from the library. Just thought I’d share, in case you read my blog about that.
- HOWL’S MOVING CASTLE: I really enjoyed this one. I can see why it’s so highly recommended. It was cozy and yet moving (plus, I could listen to Christian Bale talk all day).
- ALBERT NOBBS: *sigh* Honestly, this could’ve been good if it weren’t for the ending. It’s one of those movies that cares more about the acting than actually telling a good story.
- X-MEN 1 & 2: Campy 2000s superhero movies. Good stuff. Not great or anything, but entertaining nonetheless.
- DEAD POETS SOCIETY: Brilliant. I cried.
- HAUTE & FREDDY: This is their only song so far, but they’ve teased several more on TikTok so far and I love their sound. Very 80s. If that’s your thing, check them out.
- LOLA YOUNG: Great performance in a small venue. We were able to get pretty close to the stage.
- CRUMB: I dig their chill sound. They were also great in concert. A very talented band.
Alright, I said I’d try manga this year, so I’m doing it. I’ve read the first two Chainsaw Man volumes, and have the next two on hold at the library. If you have manga recs, let me know!
