Everything I read, watched, listened to, or played in May 2024

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Hello, book nerds!

May was a whirlwind for me. Not only was I busy at work and with friends, but several storms blew through my area and caused routine-disrupting power outages. Some areas flooded — luckily, our house was fine — but it certainly put a damper on things.

As a result, I posted less blogs and did more dopamine-hitting activities in my downtime. Like reading, of course, and watching movies or playing games.

Overall, it was a great reading month for me. I gave lots of high ratings — which is rare.

  • LESSONS IN CHEMISTRY: Review for this one coming this week!
  • WE ARE THE BRENNANS: I stopped reading pretty early on. It just never really caught my attention.
  • LORE OLYMPUS, VOL 6: Thumbs-up from me. I don’t read enough graphic novels to have much quality critique or opinions to offer. I liked it.
  • EDUCATED: This was a fascinating audiobook. Since it’s a memoir based on Westover’s childhood memories, I appreciated that the author acknowledged places where her memory was lacking or left room for others to remember differently.
  • GONE WITH THE WIND: This was really a “read it to say I read it” situation. It’s full of all the -isms. Racism. Classism. Sexism. Etc, etc. I’m convinced it was so popular because it was the 1930s version of a soap opera — truly high drama.
  • Full reviews are posted for the others:

I watch very little TV, but I made an effort this month.

  • FALLOUT: This was very fun. Some episodes were slower than others, but I had a good time. The concept is unique, and I’d like to play the game now.
  • BRIDGERTON (S3 PART 1): It was fine. I watch the show for fun (I hated the books), but it’s nothing to really write home about. The second half of the season comes out June 13, so I may have more to say then.
  • CHALLENGERS: I loved this movie. It was engaging with unique cinematography and interesting character profiles.

My husband has started collecting records this year, which means I have too, by extension. It has definitely impacted my music discovery (along with TikTok).

  • CHAPPELL ROAN: If you haven’t heard of Chappell Roan yet, we’re on different TikToks. The insane audience sizes she’s been drawing lately is a contrast to the House of Blues concert I went to last October for $50 per ticket.
  • MAIAH MANSER: If you like to listen to music while daydreaming about dramatic story sequences, check out “Sweet Hell.”
  • GLASS ANIMALS: I apologize for being ten years late to “Zaba” but I’m here now. If you like bass and drums, this is the album for you.

If you’re a Nancy Drew girlie — here’s one for the nostalgia. What more is there to say? Those who get it, get it, and those who don’t, don’t.
