Book binding and other news

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Hello, book nerds!

First of all, happy release day for House of Flame and Shadow. I’ve got this one on lock — I have both the kindle version and the physical version. This will be my first truly spoiler-free SJM reading experience, and I’m ready for it. As you know, my reviews are always honest, so look out for this one in a couple weeks. (It’s almost 1,000 pages, I can’t promise speed).

Book Binding

This past weekend, my friend and I dipped our toes into our latest obsession — binding our own physical copies of our favorite fanfiction. (Please note that it’s illegal to buy or sell fanficiton — best to bind your own or find a friend who’ll make you one!)

It’s Manacled, of course.

This has been on our radar for months. We really dove into the deep end with the 3-volume set; it was so much more work than expected. So we’re not done yet! But we’re getting there. Here’s some pictures of the process:

Folding the signatures
Using the heaviest objects I had to compress the signatures
Stitching the signatures together
Making hardcovers
Volume 1 hardcover complete!

Leigh Bardugo’s Book Tour

If you haven’t heard yet, Leigh Bardugo is going on tour for her upcoming release of The Familiar. This is one of my most anticipated 2024 books, and she’s going to be making a stop near me! So of course I’m going.

Here’s the Instagram announcement.

Currently Reading

Aside from all that, I’m obviously starting House of Flame and Shadow today, but I’m also reading an ARC for The Warm Hands of Ghosts, which I hope to finish and review by next Thursday.

On audio, I’ve got Brisingr from The Inheritance Cycle, which has honestly been my favorite of the series so far. I’m a Nasuata stan for life.

Let me know what you’re reading!

  1. I love the book binding project! I’ve tried my hand at it a few times but have only ever gotten to printing and compiling signatures — I’ve never quite gotten to the hardcover bit. Yours look great!

    • Thanks! I think it helped that I was doing this with a friend, so I had the motivation otherwise I would have definitely tuckered out much faster LOL
