All the Feels: Cute, but bland

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Spoiler-Free Blog

I want to start by saying fluffy, cutesy romances are not my usual cup of tea. All the Feels was a book club read for me, and it wasn’t a favorite.

But if cute, fluffy, or cozy romances are your thing – you should probably check this book out!

What’s it about?

When an actor, Alex, gets bad press as a result of a bar fight, his show runner hires Lauren to keep him out of trouble – which means spending all their time together.

I gave it 2.5 stars.

Rating: 2.5 out of 5.

I hesitated to give it this rating, but I had to be honest. I ended up skimming most of this book. But it wasn’t for lack of trying.

There were things I really did like.

For example, I really appreciated the body representation and fat-positive tone. It’s something we absolutely need more of in books. The references to fan fiction were also a funny recurring theme.

I liked the first act, actually, and really enjoyed the scene where Alex and Lauren were truly out in public together for the first time at a red carpet style event.

Ultimately, I just wished it had more plot.

After the first act, the plot sort of meandered.

This book was just a tad saccharine; the characters were a little overly earnest in my opinion. There was no building tension. There were many character-focused scenes that showcased entire play-by-plays of conversations which didn’t move the story along. I could skip pages at a time and not lose the thread of the story.

It was very character-driven. Almost to the point of not having a plot at all. I just kept thinking, “How is there so much book left?” I think if I boiled down this story, it could’ve been half as long. At one point there were basically 60 straight pages of spice, and nothing else of import happened in that time.

Side note: I struggled to believe Alex was supposed to be a 39 year-old man. He had the mannerisms and maturity of a guy half his age, which made it difficult to enjoy him as a love interest.

Should you read it?

All the Feels might be for you if you like heavily character-driven stories. If you like to spend lots of time with characters, even when nothing is really happening, you’ll like this one.

For a romance I do generally recommend, check out this review.

  1. Your review is basically what I get from most romances. Its okay but not enough depth! Something to read in a pinch 😉
