A Court of Mist and Fury (Book 2): The best of ACOTAR

There was no sophomore slump in sight for this series – A Court of Mist and Fury won me heart and soul.

Why? Well, let’s dive in.

What is book 2 about?

In ACOMAF, we pick up not long after the events of Book 1. On top of a grueling PTSD that is wearing Feyre down, she also faces the stress of her upcoming marriage to Tamlin. But that’s not all.

Remember the deal she made with Rhysand in the dungeons Under the Mountain? Well he hasn’t come to collect, and Feyre knows it’s only a matter of time before the High Lord of the Night Court knocks on her door. She has no idea what to expect from Rhysand or his court, but she can only imagine the worst.

In this sequel, not only does the romance get steamier and more surprising, but Feyre finds herself caught in a web of political warfare and a looming threat that just might consume them all.

This is the best book in the series, in my opinion.

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Was the writing perfect? No. Personally, I think it suffered from some of the same issues I had with book 1.

But I would be lying if I didn’t say this book lived in my head RENT. FREE. for a whole week. ACOMAF was the object of all my waking thoughts and daydreams. It inspired a reading hangover that lasted so long, I waited a month before picking up book 3.

It was the romance. And the way it tangled up with the main plot? Perfection. It was a steamy slow-burn in the best way possible.

The plot was interesting enough on its own, but truly, the romance was the third rail that powered the train. It carried me from chapter to chapter relentlessly.

Should you read it?

Did you like ACOTAR? Then yes. It’s 100% necessary.

Were you not so hot on book 1? You might like this one better. It addresses a lot of the main issues some readers have with the romance in book 1.
